Israel Hamas War: Palestine rejects forced displacement, tells US 'second nakba' imminent
The White House is saying that evacuating Gaza within just 24 hours is a very difficult task. Israel has ordered this quick evacuation because they might send their troops into Gaza.
The President of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas, spoke with the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken. He told Blinken that Palestine doesn't want to force Palestinians out of Gaza. This would be a terrible event, like a second "nakba," which means a catastrophe. It's a word from Arabic and talks about the big displacement of Palestinians in the 1948 war when Israel was created. The President told Blinken that they need to create safe passages for people in Gaza right away to avoid a big humanitarian problem.
The United States is helping Israel against Hamas, which has been attacking Israel in a major way. Blinken met with the Palestinian President in Jordan.
After a week of fighting between Israel and Hamas, Israel has asked all the people in Gaza City to leave. This is a sign that Israel might send their soldiers into the city. They gave the United Nations 24 hours to move their workers out of the nearby areas.
Many Palestinians live in Gaza, and Israel wants them to move from the north to the south. Gaza is very crowded, and there are tunnels underground. If Israel attacks the ground, it could be very bad for the people there. They've asked everyone in the northern part to go to the south.
Hamas, who controls Gaza, told the people to stay in their homes and be strong against Israel.
