Israel, US reach tentative deal with Hamas to free hostages: Report

The United States, and Hamas are close to making a deal to set free many women and children who are being kept captive in Gaza. The Washington Post reported on Saturday that they have reached a preliminary agreement. The deal suggests that all parties will stop fighting for at least five days.
During this time, around 50 or more hostages will be released in smaller groups every day. This agreement comes after Hamas took about 240 hostages in Israel on October 7, resulting in the deaths of 1,200 people.

According to the Washington Post, the agreement is laid out in a detailed, six-page document. It mentions that overhead surveillance will be used to watch the movement on the ground, ensuring that everyone sticks to the pause in fighting. The pause is not just for the release of hostages but also to allow a significant amount of humanitarian aid to come in.

The White House and the Israeli prime minister's office have not commented on the Post's report yet. People familiar with the agreement say that the release of hostages could start in the next few days.
