2024 US Presidential Election: Donald Trump eligible for Colorado's primary ballot, judge dismisses lawsuit

A judge in Colorado, Sarah Wallace, decided that Donald Trump can still be part of the state's presidential primary ballot. Some people had argued that Trump should be kept off the ballot because they believed he broke his promise to protect the country by supporting the Capitol attack. Similar decisions were made in Minnesota and Michigan, allowing Trump to stay on their ballots.

These court rulings are a win for Trump, as they protect his chance to run for president again in the upcoming elections. A group called Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics (CREW) had filed a lawsuit in Colorado, saying Trump shouldn't be allowed to run due to his supporters' attack on the Capitol in January 2021.

However, Trump's lawyers succeeded in Colorado, and similar legal fights in other states might eventually reach the US Supreme Court, where conservatives have the majority.

Judge Wallace mentioned that there were good arguments on both sides but believed that the rules about who can run for office shouldn't include former presidents. She ordered the Secretary of State to include Trump on the ballot for the presidential primary on January 5, 2024.

While this legal battle was happening, Trump is getting ready for a trial in Washington in March. He faces charges of trying to overturn the results of the 2020 election, which Joe Biden won. Trump also has similar charges against him in Georgia. After the Capitol attack, he was impeached by the House of Representatives for inciting an insurrection, but the Senate acquitted him.
