Union minister Piyush Goyal met US President Joe Biden at a special event called the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) welcome reception on Thursday.

Goyal shared the news on social media, expressing his honor in meeting President Biden at the APEC reception. Later, Goyal told the news agency ANI that President Biden conveyed his greetings to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Biden recognized that countries not responsible for causing environmental damage are the ones most affected.

Goyal emphasized that this acknowledgment is a significant endorsement of Prime Minister Modi's consistent stand on climate issues. He mentioned that India and the US have decided to work closely together.

During the visit, a new fund was launched, with both governments actively contributing. Goyal hopes this fund will encourage substantial investment in India.

Apart from meeting President Biden, Goyal also interacted with US Secretary of Treasury Janet Yellen, discussing matters of mutual interest. Goyal's visit included discussions with Peru's Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism Juan Carlos Mathews on the progress of the Free Trade Agreement negotiations between India and Peru.

Additionally, Goyal met with Qualcomm Technology Licensing and Global Affairs President Alex Rogers to explore collaboration opportunities within India's semiconductor ecosystem. He also had a meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida at the APEC Leaders' Meeting.

Goyal participated in events like the Partnership for Global Infrastructure Investment (PGII) and IPEF Investment Forum. He congratulated US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo and Senior Advisor to US President Amos Hochstein for their initiatives.

Goyal expressed delight in joining leaders from the Indo-Pacific region at these forums, highlighting the positive discussions and enthusiasm. He expressed optimism about positive outcomes for India and the region, emphasizing that the world sees India as an attractive destination for global investment.

Goyal welcomed the announcement of the US-India Green Transition Fund, believing it will contribute to India's ambitious goals in renewable energy generation. Overall, Goyal's visit aimed to strengthen ties, promote collaboration, and showcase India as an investment-friendly destination.
