Joe Biden 2024 campaign, allies raise $71 million in latest quarterly haul

President Joe Biden's team for the 2024 election and his political party revealed on Sunday that they collected $71 million in the last three months. Many supporters are concerned about Biden's age and his low approval ratings.

The amount of money raised this time is almost the same as the $72 million they raised in the previous three months. However, the earlier period was shorter because Biden started his campaign in late April. It's common for fundraising to be slower in the summertime, which is the period from July to September, more than a year before the election.

The Democrats have $91 million in cash at the end of September, spread across different groups that raise money for the party.

Biden, who is 80 years old, decided to run for another four-year term, despite concerns about his age. Recent polls show that people worry about his age, and some Democratic voters are less excited.

Biden's campaign, which is based in his hometown of Wilmington, Delaware, plans to use the money they've raised to hire more staff, organize in states where the competition is strong, and run advertising campaigns.

They also plan to hire more people in the coming weeks and by the end of the year to prepare for the election in November 2024. They believe that their main rival will be the former Republican President, Donald Trump.

For comparison, in 2019, then-President Trump and the Republican National Committee raised $125 million in the third quarter for their re-election. In 2011, former President Barack Obama and the Democratic National Committee raised $70 million, which, when adjusted for inflation, is more than what Biden raised in the latest quarter.

It's a bit tricky to compare Biden's fundraising numbers with Republicans because they include funds controlled by people close to Biden. The Republicans haven't chosen their candidate yet, and some of their money is being used in their internal competition.

Biden's campaign, along with other candidates, needs to provide more detailed financial records to the Federal Election Commission by the end of the day.

Earlier this month, Trump said his campaign raised over $45.5 million from July to September. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, one of his competitors, reported raising $15 million in the same period. Some of Trump's supporters believe that the charges against him are politically motivated, which has helped his fundraising.

Biden's popularity is currently quite low, with only 40% of Americans approving of his performance, according to a recent poll.

Biden has been juggling campaign activities with his responsibilities as President. This includes dealing with potential government shutdowns, a House of Representatives without a leader, labor strikes, natural disasters, the conflict in Ukraine, tensions with China, and now the war in Israel.

The Biden campaign has focused on increasing grassroots fundraising. This is important because it shows how much enthusiasm there is for the campaign. In 2020, small online donations made up a significant portion of Biden's record-breaking $1 billion fundraising, with $700 million coming from these small donations.

Some of the moments that helped with online grassroots fundraising included a "Meet the Presidents" contest that raised almost $2.5 million and the sale of "Dark Brandon" mugs and videos, which brought in $2 million in revenue since August.
