Israel-Hamas War: US President Joe Biden urges for peace, says ‘two-state’ is the solution to the conflict

US President Joe Biden called for peace during the Israel-Hamas conflict. He believes that everyone in Israel and Palestine should be safe, respected, and have peace. He thinks the best solution is a two-state plan.

In a tweet, he also said that the success of Israel and Ukraine is crucial for the safety of the United States. He pointed out that history has shown that when terrorists and dictators are not held accountable, they can cause more harm.

He mentioned that Hamas might have attacked Israel because they were worried about Israel's improved relations with Saudi Arabia. This statement was made during a campaign fundraiser where he suggested that his planned meeting with the Saudis might have triggered the Hamas attack on Israel in October.

Biden explained that the Saudi government was getting closer to recognizing Israel, which may have provoked Hamas. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also expressed hope for a historic peace between Israel and Saudi Arabia under Biden's leadership.

The normalization effort was announced in September at the Group of 20 summit in India, with plans to work together on a shipping route. Saudi Arabia has been advocating for Palestinian rights as part of a broader agreement with Israel. Success in this could lead to other Arab and Muslim-majority countries recognizing Israel. These nations have opposed Israel since its creation 75 years ago in an area where Palestinians lived long before.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken also suggested that Hamas's leaders may have been trying to disrupt the diplomatic ties between Israel and Saudi Arabia.

Pope Francis also called for peace and expressed concern about the dire situation in Gaza, urging the prevention of a humanitarian catastrophe.

Biden expressed unwavering support for Israel after the Hamas attack on October 7, even though it led to Israeli airstrikes on Gaza, worsening the humanitarian crisis. The conflict has resulted in the deaths of over 1,400 Israelis and 4,137 Palestinians, with Hamas taking more than 200 people as hostages after the initial attack.
